Alcohol and substance abuse disorders are high among American Indian (AI). The consequences of these disorders contribute to morbidity, mortality, disabilities, family disruption, and other distress. The goal of the Chemical Dependency Resource Project is to collect data on the resources available to clients with alcohol and/or other substance abuse and dependence at the Chemical Dependence Centers on the Reservations and Urban Areas in Montana and Wyoming. Information will also be collected on the type of funding, method of program data collection, treatment capacity, and best practices. Personal Health information on the clients will not be collected.
This study will collect the same data on the treatment services as the CSAT-funded State of Montana Native American Substance Abuse Treatment Needs Study (2001). The data collected will be returned to the participating individual Chemical Dependence Centers on the Reservations and Urban Areas. This project avails the Tribes a standardized, information system as a basis for comparison for longitudinal evaluation of resources available to clients over the years in the Chemical Dependency Centers. Archives will be kept on Best Practices of chemical dependence treatment and services from all participating Tribes and centers. Each center’s resources will be compared to all other participating center resources for comparison evaluation.
Data collected will be used by the Tribal Government and Tribal Health Department to improve the quality of client services and to also address Chemical Dependence Centers’ human resource needs.
