Suicide Data Tracking Project

Suicide data is crucial in understanding and preventing suicides on the Montana and Wyoming Reservations, however, suicide data on Montana Reservations are severely underreported. There are only a few organizations in the community that collect suicide data and these data are not shared between agencies offering treatment or other services to suicidal individuals and/or their family members. The Suicide Data Tracking Project will augment the current IHS suicide tracking database. This data will be used to understand suicide and suicide attempts on the Reservation and plan interventions.

Updates:

  • Suicide Data Tracking Project has been successfully implemented on two Reservations
  • Both Reservations have maintained/sustained the project even after full implementation had ended because of the great value of suicide tracking on the Reservations
  • In 2010 One more Reservation will be implementing the project
